Andie DeFreese, AuD
PhD Student

I am a graduate student in the Jan Lab and audiologist in the Cochlear Implant clinic. My academic journey began at Vanderbilt University, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and Disabilities Studies. Under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Wallace, I conducted functional imaging research to explore multisensory integration in the cortex. I continued my studies at Vanderbilt in the Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program, working with Dr. René Gifford on research into cross-modal plasticity in cochlear implant patients.

After completing my AuD, I joined the Jan Lab as a PhD student. My current research focuses on understanding the variability in cochlear implant outcomes, using big data approaches to identify biomarkers in the central auditory system. Outside of work, I enjoy mountain biking with my dogs and baking.
